OPTIMISE’s June EECA Workshop Achieves Strong Participation and Mandatory CDP Fulfillment  3

On 26 June 2025, over 80 energy and sustainability professionals from across Malaysia attended OPTIMISE one day live online workshop on “Understanding the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) and Its Impact on Companies”.  Attendees included energy managers, compliance officers, facility and operations managers, senior ESG executives, researchers and students. Participants shared that the session helped them gain a comprehensive understanding of not just the   EEC Act, but also provided them with deeper insights on the EEC regulations, guidelines and guides.

As an added benefit, participants also earned 8 Mandatory CDP hours under the Energy Commission to fulfill a key requirement for Registered Energy Managers (REMs) and other energy professionals.

With the EECA 2024 enforcement timeline fast approaching, the workshop covered:

      • The EECA key provisions and what companies need to do to comply
      • EECA regulations and guidelines for energy consumers and building owners.
      • Compliance timeline and seven key preparation steps.
      • Penalties for non-compliance.
      • REM and Registered Energy Auditors (REA)-related requirements

Participants also benefited from an interactive, real-time Q&A session where they gained insights on  related real-world scenarios from expert speakers: Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Zainuddin Abdul Manan, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Sharifah Rafidah Wan Alwi, and Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Lim Jeng Shiun.

Feedback from the June cohort was overwhelmingly positive. Among the comments received:

“Highly insightful and well-structured. The speakers provided clear, practical explanations and deep knowledge that enhanced our understanding of EECA’s implications on operational and strategic levels. An excellent session for anyone seeking to align their organisation with sustainable energy practices.”

“The content and materials of the training helps me to understand the important things / key highlights of the EECA 2024. The speakers also delivers the content clearly, with elaboration and examples, making it a lot easier for the participants to understand. Very satisfied with the training session.”

“I am truly delighted to have participated in the training session on the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024. The training provided a comprehensive and clear understanding of the Act, its objectives, and the associated regulatory framework. As a PhD student whose research is directly aligned with sustainable energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) management systems, this training has proven to be highly relevant and beneficial. The knowledge gained from this session has significantly enhanced my comprehension of the EECA 2024, particularly in terms of its practical implications and compliance requirements for industries and building facilities. This has given me a clearer perspective on how to incorporate the principles and regulatory requirements of the Act into my current research framework. Overall, this training has been instrumental in bridging theoretical knowledge with practical legislative application, and I look forward to integrating these learnings into my ongoing study.”

Given the positive response, and based on popular demand, OPTIMISE is pleased to announce our next EECA Virtual Workshop on 17 September 2025. We cordially invite professionals to register to join this upcoming session.  Please feel free to recommend colleagues to attend, to help them prepare for the EECA implementation.

OPTIMISE extends our sincere thanks to all participants for their active engagement and thoughtful questions. Special appreciation also goes to our distinguished speakers, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Zainuddin Abdul Manan, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Sharifah Rafidah Wan Alwi, and Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Lim Jeng Shiun, for delivering yet another impactful session.
