Those with experience conducting management systems (MS) workshops—including for Energy Management Systems (EnMS)—know how challenging it can be to keep sessions lively and engaging. The highly descriptive nature of MS standards and clauses often makes them feel dry and difficult to digest.
To avoid simply “ploughing through” one clause after another, we design our EnMS sessions through the lens of real-life experiences. From building a compelling case and aligning the system with our environment, to providing support, tracking progress, and reviewing performance—we connect each EnMS clause to the actual challenges, experiments, failures, and successes we’ve encountered while implementing EnMS at our own Universiti Teknologi Malaysia “backyard”.
It was rewarding to see energy professionals who attended our ISO50001 workshop found the sessions both engaging and valuable.
Ts Mohd Mawardi bin Hussain, a Vocational Training Officer from KKTM Sri Gading shared that “This course is tremendously helpful for me to implement the energy management system in my organisation. The syllabus is well explained and full of examples to follow.”
His thoughts were echoed by Mohd Uzaini Mohd Ariff, a Sustainable Development Manager from PETRONAS who found the training useful with “real life examples”.
Wong Tien Yi, a Technical Sales Executive from Astronergy New Energy Technology (Singapore) PTE LTD, appreciated the importance of data analysis and performance tracking in energy management. He said “This training provided up-to-date information and know-how; It is a fruitful sharing delivered by a team of high-level professionals. I shall continue participating with this organisation to gain more in the lovely field.”
At the heart of effective management systems lies a mindset of continual improvement—one that has guided our energy management journey at UTM since the 1990s. At UTM, we believe that “there is no failure, only feedback.”
It’s this approach that led to UTM being ranked 1st globally among higher education institutions for UN-SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by Times Higher Education. This recognition is the result of decades of commitment to building our Sustainable and Resilient Energy Management Program (SREMP).
OPTMISE is pleased to invite registrations for our upcoming Energy Management System (EnMS) workshop, along with other workshops on Industrial Thermal Energy Audit (ITEA), GHG accounting and management, Thermal Energy Recovery Technologist, Product Carbon Footprint and Energy Efficiency Conservation Act—all available on our website.
