Grace Ann Yap Su-Mei is a Principal Engineer with a specialization in Energy with Group Technical Solutions, Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS). Since joining PETRONAS 14 years ago, she has led more than 10 energy optimisation studies including Strategic Energy Optimization and Integration projects in the various PETRONAS refinery, gas and petrochemical facilities. In 2020, she was also the technical lead for the first Multi-Site Energy Optimisation Study in Kertih. She has also led CAPEX feasibility studies in particular for energy improvement and/or greenhouse gas reduction. In addition, she has been involved in the development of the PETRONAS Energy Standard Practices, conducting Energy Baselines, developing and delivering internal training for Energy Optimization and is the secretariat for the PETRONAS Value Improvement Program & Energy and Loss Community of Practice. She is a PETRONAS scholar, who graduated with a double degree in Chemical Engineering and Commerce with the University Medal from the University of Sydney. She is also a Chartered Chemical Engineer with iCHemE.
Prof Ir Ts Dr Sharifah Rafidah Wan Alwi is a Professor in the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She previously helmed as the Director of Process Systems Engineering Centre for ten years (2011 to 2021). She is an expert Pinch consultant for multiple industries and is among the leading researchers in Pinch Analysis technique development. Prof Sharifah is also the co-founder and Director of Optimal Systems Engineering Sdn Bhd, a UTM Spin-off company. She is an active consultant as well as trainers for the industries. Together with her team, they have developed 7 resource minimisation software. Prof Sharifah has won various international and national awards such as Green Talents 2009 (Germany), IChemE Highly Commended Sir Frederick Warner Prize 2011 (UK), ASEAN Young Scientist and Technologist Award 2014, National Young Scientist Award 2015, ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women 2016 in Energy Sustainability, Malaysia Research Star Award 2016, 2018, 2019 and Top Research Scientists Malaysia 2018. She was listed as ‘Asian Scientist 100’ in 2017 and ‘Asia’s Rising Scientists’ in 2020, and ‘8 Women Scientists from Asia You Should Know’ in 2021 by AsianScientist.com. Due to her various contributions globally and locally, she was promoted as Professor in 2016 at the age of 34 years old by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Dr Sharifah is also the Associate Editor for Journal of Cleaner Production, Chair for the Science Leadership Working Group under Young Scientist Network, Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) and UTM Sustainable Energy Management System advisor. She has also served as the Chair for Malaysia IChemE Young Engineer Group (YEG).
Dr. Hariyanto is a Head of Research Center and Development for electricity, renewable energy and energy conservation, Agency for Research and Development of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Republic of Indonesia. Before, he was Director of Energy Conservation, DG New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of MEMR
He is an energy management consultant with over 25 years of experience in energy efficiency industry with specialist in energy optimization and energy management system implementation. He is a certified expert in Energy Management System (EnMS) by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). He is also certified energy auditor, energy manager and certified national expert on steam system optimization by UNIDO
He began his career as an energy efficiency engineer in Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology. As an energy manager and energy audit accessor, Dr. Hariyanto has trained hundreds of executives, managers and engineers through training and workshops on energy management and energy efficiency topics since 1997.
Ibrahim Ariffin obtained his Master of Renewable Energy (2019) from the University of Malaya, and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, United States of America (2008). Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, he served Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the largest electricity utility in Malaysia from 2008 until 2020, primarily as a Senior Grid Planning Engineer. With expertise in power system analysis and prowess in power simulation tools such as PSSE, his previous responsibilities included the formulation of the Annual Transmission Development Plan for Peninsular Malaysia and assessment of the development of cross-border grid connections such as the ASEAN Power Grid.
His previous portfolio comprised of facilitating the integration of renewable energy (RE) projects into the national grid system including the Net Energy Metering (NEM) and Feed-in Tariff (FiT) programmes. He gained exposure to the governance and commercial aspects of Large Scale Solar (LSS) power plants in Malaysia by being involved in the development of technical guidelines to facilitate LSS connection to electricity network, and preparation of Power Purchase Agreements alongside Single Buyer, Grid Owner and Grid System Operator. Engagement with the relevant authorities and providing consultation to project developers to support the execution of RE projects from the preliminary planning phase up to commissioning stage gave him a holistic understanding of the nature of such projects, enabling him to address technical and commercial aspects accordingly.
Ar. Serina Hijjas is one of the creative directors at HIJJAS Architects & Planners and is known for changing the building landscape of architecture through buildings that are responsive, energy conscious + bold. Her formative years exposed her to energy efficiency and sustainable design and have culminated in projects like the Heriot Watt University ‘green campus’, Celcom Tower ‘interconnective offices’ and EPIC waste training center. Through a series of energy award buildings, the approach to design is holistic, responsive of placemaking + context with a view in generating new environmental sustainable specific strategies in every project.

Norazrin bin Rupadi is the Assistant Director of the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Unit of Suruhanjaya Tenaga. He has 10 years’ experience involvement in Energy Management and Energy Efficiency. Prior working with Suruhanjaya Tenaga, he is an Executive in Private Energy Management Consultant company before starting his career with Suruhanjaya Tenaga in 2011. His work expertise includes Energy Efficiency Project evaluation, Energy Management & Energy Efficiency implementation action plan and Development of Energy Efficiency criteria for Electrical Appliances under Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS).
Ir. Au Chong Hun is Director of Primetech Engineers Sdn Bhd and holds an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Malaya. He has diverse experience in a wide range of projects such as high rise, offices, institutional building, university campus, residential developments, mall, museum, warehouse, factories and infrastructure planning. He has also successfully led the implementation of sustainable strategies for a number of GBI Platinum and Gold buildings. Apart from his professional work, Ir. Au is also active in the industry and lectures regularly in various NGOs and universities on topics related to M&E design, Energy Efficiency and Fire Safety Design. He is a member in the Technical Committee for Fire Properties of Building Material and serves as a Working Group member for various Malaysian Standards. In 2020, 3 projects undertaken by Primetech Engineers Sdn Bhd were awarded with 4 National Energy Awards and 3 Asean Energy Awards. Two of these projects have been identified to be presented at COPE_BEST 2021.
Ir. Dr. Khairul Azmy Kamaluddin is a Senior Deputy Director (Services) in Engineering Services Division, Ministry of Health. He is also the current President of Biomedical Engineering Association of Malaysia (BEAM), a council member to IAC-CFM and IFHE, a certified asapm Project Practitioner, a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and a Registered Electrical Energy Manager (REEM). He is regarded as MoH expert referral on all healthcare related building and engineering system design, with focus on building condensation issues, energy efficiency and green initiatives.
Tham Chee Aun is the founder and CEO of Ditrolic Energy Group with over 12 years of experience in the solar and renewable energy field. As one of the early starters of the industry in South East Asia, he has broad experience in business development, project execution, corporate and project structuring as well as wide exposure in renewable energy finance and contracts. In his capacity as the CEO, he provides strategic direction to the company and manages operation in the key strategic area of the group businesses. To date, Mr. Tham Chee Aun has successfully developed and owned more than 350MW of projects in various countries, such as Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Bangladesh. Prof Ir Ts Dr Zainuddin Abdul Manan is a professor of chemical engineering, the founding director of UTM Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT), founding Dean of UTM Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, the founder of the UTM spin-off, Optimal Systems Engineering. He began his career as an engineer in PETRONAS and Hume Industries and has been an academic leader, professor, researcher, consultant and professional coach for over 25 years. Zain is a UK/EU chartered engineer, a Fellow IChemE (UK), Fellow Academy of Science Malaysia, a professional engineer and technologist, a certified energy manager, a REEM and a certified trainer for ASEAN energy managers. Zain has trained professionals from over 500 organisations and delivered over 400 invited talks in professional courses, conferences and seminars worldwide. He was a Vice Chair of Board of Judges for ASEAN Energy Awards, and has been the technical advisor for Malaysian Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. He founded and spearheaded the UTM Sustainable Energy Management initiative that led UTM to amass over USD 7 million energy savings (2011 and 2020) and to win the ASEAN Energy Award.
Zulkiflee Umar is currently the Deputy Director of Energy Efficiency & Conservation, Department of Industry Operation of Energy Commission Malaysia. He begins his career with Energy Commission Malaysia in 2005 in the Legal Department performing enforcement tasks under the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and Gas Supply Act 1993. Shift to the Department of Gas Development and Regulation of Energy Commission Malaysia in 2008 performing tasks related to the safety of gas installations. Appointed as the Head of Demand Side Management Unit in 2012 now known as Energy Efficiency & Conservation Unit performing the following duties and responsibilities: Enforcement and promotion of the Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations (EMEER) 2008 and Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) Requirements for domestic and industrial appliances.
Dr. Lim Daw Yuen is currently the Marketing Manager of Technical Services Division (TSD), Sime Darby Offshore Engineering Sdn. Bhd. He holds a Degree of Engineering (Chemical) from UTM, Malaysia and registered as a member of Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). He holds an MBA from University Lincoln, UK and obtained his Doctorate in Business Administration from OUM, Malaysia in year 2012. He began his career with Siemens Power Generation as Engineer for Power Plants in 1999. He moved on to join the local automation company as Division Manager for sales and distribution area for 2 years prior to join Sime Darby in year 2007. Since then, he leads and identifies priority areas of work for the Company in Gas Turbine & Gas Engine Cogeneration, District Cooling, CNG Stations, and BioCNG and other renewable energy business. He has contributed significantly at pioneering and architecting the value chain of BioCNG in Malaysia since 2010.
Zaini Abdul Wahab is an energy management consultant with over 22 years of experience in energy efficiency and sustainable energy development industry who specialises in reducing business operational costs for organisations through energy management system implementation. He is a certified expert in Energy Management System (EnMS) by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). He is also Registered Electrical Energy Manager (REEM) with Energy Commission, a certified energy auditor and an accredited energy measurement and verification professional by Malaysia Association of Energy Service Companies (MAESCO) and a certified trainer by the HRDF. As a trainer, Mr. Zaini has trained thousands of executives, managers and directors through training and workshops on energy management and energy efficiency topics since 1999 and has been the guest trainer for organizations such as MAESCO, FMM and SEDA Malaysia.
Ir. Loh Sin Seng is the Head for Biogas Operation in Sime Darby Plantation. He has been leading the development of renewable energy business, specifically biogas initiatives within Sime Darby Plantation. His role includes seeing to the roll-out of in-house biogas projects to meet carbon reduction target, as well as initiating collaborative effort with strategic partners in the development of commercial biogas power plant. Since joining Sime Darby Plantation 18 years ago, Ir Loh have been involved in planning, conceptualizing, design and project managing the development of various palm oil related projects including biomass power plant, modernized farming, composting plant, construction and upgrading of palm oil mill projects. He is a Mechanical Engineer by training, registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia and a Registered Electrical Energy Manager with Suruhanjaya Tenaga.
Prof. Ir. Dr. Nasrudin Abd Rahim holds PhD from Heriot-Watt University, UK. He became a Chartered Engineer in 2000 and promoted as a Professor in 2003. He is a Fellow in the Institution of Engineering Technology (FIET) and Academy of Sciences Malaysia (FASM). He is also an Adjunct Professor in the King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (SMIEEE). Professor Dr. Nasrudin is the Founder and Director of the UM Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre (UMPEDAC), one of the ten nationally acclaimed Higher Institutions’ Centre of Excellence (HICoE) of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE). He is also the Chairman of the University of Malaya Advanced Engineering & Technology (AET) Research Cluster.
Christoph Brunner is the CEO of AEE INTEC in Austria. Before, he was head of department IPE – Industrial Processes and Energy Systems at AEE INTEC. The main topics of his work are energy and resource efficiency, the integration of renewable energy for the industry like solar process heat and membrane distillation for wastewater purification and process water upgrading. He was Project coordinator of several national and international projects as SolarFoods, GREENFOODS, SOLAR BREW (FP 7), EINSTEIN (IEE), TrustEE, Operating Agent in the International Energy Agency – IEA SHC Task 49 – Solar Process Heat for Production and Advanced Applications and IEA SHC Task 62 for Solar thermal energy and industrial water management. He is the member of the board of the European technology platform for Renewable Heating and Cooling RHC- ETIP. Christoph is also an expert for industrial energy efficiency and process intensification (membrane distillation) with a focus on the food and beverage industry, galvanic industry, including the pinch analyses (PE2, SOCO, EINSTEIN). Part of the Austrian and European work of Standardization for energy audits (CEN), UNIDO expert in energy efficiency for the industry in Uganda, Balkan countries, Malaysia, India, Russia, Egypt and South America.
Dr. Mohd Nor Azman Hassan is currently the Deputy Secretary General (Technology Development) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. He oversees the policies and development of science, technology and innovation ecosystem to support the socio-economic development of the country. His previous positions were in the areas of higher education, power sector and technological development including industrial related technologies such as renewable energy, advanced materials and manufacturing, biotechnology and nanotechnology. He had extensive engagements with the industry including the SMEs, in particular to communicate government’s policies and programmes relating to STI. Dr. Azman holds a doctoral degree from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA in the field of renewable energy technology and is trained in conducting Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Dr Azman is also a registered Professional Technologist (Green Tech) with the Malaysian Board of Technologist.
Aimi Aizreen Nasharuddin is the Chief Business Officer of MDV, overseeing both the Business & PR & Communications Divisions. He also oversees MDV’s overall business growth. Ir. Ammar Mohd Rashid is the Managing Director of AMR Environmental Sdn. Emeritus Prof. Ir. Dr. Kannan is Professor Emeritus, UTM currently attached to ISI Ventures, UTM. He is a professional engineer registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia and a Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council, U.K. He is a Fellow of IEM Malaysia, IMechE UK and ASHRAE USA. He is currently a local energy consultant/trainer and has more than 30 years of experience in energy research and consultancy including collaboration with international energy organizations. His expertise is in energy efficiency practices & technologies. He has served as the Chief Project Coordinator for the UNDP-GEF “Malaysian Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement Project” from March 2005 to December 2007 and National Project Manager for the UNIDO-GEF project on ‘Industrial Energy Efficiency for Malaysian Manufacturing sector’ from December 2011 to April 2017. He is currently the Technical Advisor for UNIDO in Malaysia
Dr. Zarina Ab Muis is a senior lecturer and Director of Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Master’s in Advanced Process Engineering from Loughborough University and PhD from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She specialises in Integrated Energy Planning, Decentralized Electricity Generation, Renewable Energy Planning, Process Modeling and Simulation, Energy Management System and Scheduling (EMSS) comprising of various the energy saving technologies, energy efficiency and management policies in industry and Sustainability or Green Index. Her research activities are focused on low carbon society (LCS), climate change mitigation strategy, renewable electricity generation and Renewable Energy distributed electricity generation (DEG) system. She has won numerous international and local awards such as INATEX, MTE and Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) and research grants. Dr. Zarina is a Certified Energy Manager awarded by Asean Energy Management Schemes (AEMAS) and Certified Registered Electrical and Energy Manager (REEM). She is a registered engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and Graduate Member of Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
Ar. Zulkifli Zahari is the President of Malaysia Association of Energy Service Companies (MAESCO) a post he has held for the past 13 years. Mr. Zulkifli is an Architect by profession. He is also a practicing Green Building Facilitator and an Electrical Energy Manager registered with the Malaysian Energy Commission. Through MAESCO, he sits in various National Steering Committee as well as the Project Director for the Malaysian Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement Project (MIEEIP), The Building Sector Energy Efficiency Project (BSEEP) as well as the forthcoming Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act to be enacted by the Malaysian government. He has over the years developed MAESCO as the main training provider for certified courses in Energy Management, Energy Auditor and Measurement and Verification recognised by the Malaysian Government. He is the founder and Managing Director of Zet Corporation, an ESCO which is part of a diversified Zet Group of companies. Within the group, he spearheads various specialized consultancy services to the local Power Utilities and Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Industries other than Architecture and Green Building Consultancy Services.
Ir. Al-Khairi Mohd Daud is a professional mechanical engineer with 30+ years experience spanning various sectors. From gas process plant, oleochemicals to high-end R&D and medical centre facilities. He acted as the Principal Engineer and Facilities Manager. He graduated from the University of Leeds with a BEng. (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering as well as holds an MBA from UNITAR. He is one of the AEMAS Certified Trainers for the Energy Manager Training Course (EMTC) as well as the trainer for competent and authorized person for medical gas system. He is also one of the active surveyors of Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), drafting the standard two and three of the MSQH 5th edition standards. He also has experience in research, manufacturing and private healthcare facilities. Ir Al-Khairi was involved in construction, project management, asset management, reliability studies, repair and maintenance of plants and facilities and consultancy. Currently, Ir Al-Khairi is the Chief Consultant for Faqeh Management which specializing in asset, reliability, maintenance and energy management. Ir Al-Khairi is the advisor for Oil, Gas and Mining Technical Division for Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and a surveyor with Malaysian Society for Quality in Healthcare. He is also a member of Institute of Asset Management in UK. Ir Al-Khairi is not only a Registered Electrical Energy Manager with Energy Commission but he has been appointed as the country expert, trainer and auditor for ASEAN Energy Management Standard (AEMAS) under Green Technology Malaysia and preparing to be the expert trainer for ISO 50001.
Ir. Ts. Dr. Liew Peng Yen received his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Chemical Engineering. He has qualified himself as the Professional Engineer by Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Chartered Engineer under Engineering Council (UK), chartered member of Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), and certified energy manager (CEM) under ASEAN Energy Manager Accreditation Scheme (AEMAS). He specialises in energy management and Process Systems Engineering with emphasis on industrial energy and resources conservation using systematic algebraic process integration techniques. To date, he has authored 56 indexed journals and refereed conference proceedings on his research work, and delivered keynote (5) invited lectures in several international conferences. His current citation is 630 and H-index of 12 as recorded in Scopus. He received Highly Commended in IChemE Malaysia Young Researcher Award 2017 and 2019.
Ts. Dr. Azizul Azri Mustaffa is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He is also an Associate Member of the Process Systems Engineering Centre UTM. On top of that, he now serves as a Manager of Creative Multimedia and Learning Technologies at the Centre for Academic Leadership UTM (UTMLead) focusing on training academic staff and developing Micro-Credential courses. He has been with UTM for 15 years now. His research expertise is on thermal energy management, computer-aided physicochemical property estimation, chemical product design, chemical process synthesis and simulation. Besides being a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), he has been a coordinator for the award-winning Master of Science in Energy Management for 7 years where the programme has won the Innovative Curriculum Category for the Malaysian Minister of Education Special Award: Curriculum Design and Innovative Delivery 2018 (AKRI 2018). Through this programme, besides the degree, graduates will also obtain a Registered Electrical Energy Manager (REEM) certification from Energy Commission Malaysia.
Tan Yue Dian is currently a Ph.D. student in the Chemical Engineering program under School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor, Malaysia. She is working to perform optimal planning for a new conceptual zone of integrated palm oil processing complex that can serve as a sustainable climate change-tackling solution for palm oil mills. Her research interest lies in the sustainability impacts of implementing palm oil mill effluent (POME) elimination and mill-refinery integration in palm oil mills. Her study includes the evaluation of trade-offs between biogas utilization and POME elimination approaches in designing a sustainable integrated palm oil based-complex (POBC) for palm oil processing purpose using mathematical and optimisation tools. She has published 4 Q1 papers, 3 Scopus indexed articles and 1 book chapter to date based on her research findings. In attachment to Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT), she has been involved in the Eco-industrial Park project with her colleagues and Waste 2 Wealth development (a Malaysian waste exchange website) to facilitate Malaysia’s circular economy transformation. Recently, she has been shortlisted as one of the finalists for the YSN-ASM Chrysalis Award as a promising candidate to contribute towards Malaysia’s Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem.
Raidah Md Sudi is a PhD student of Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT) in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Previously, she obtained a Bachelor Degree from UTM in Chemical Engineering. She then continues her study at the same university and obtained her Master Degree in Safety, Health and Environment. Raidah’s current research is on heat integration where she focuses on heat exchanger network retrofit for energy saving. Her main objective of the research is to develop a new numerical method to improve energy efficiency of existing HEN. Her research also concerned on the controllability of the retrofitted network which may constrain the energy efficiency of a network.
