This course emphasizes basic dynamic behaviour, basic physical modelling, basic computer simulation, basic control concepts, and basic controller tuning methods.

This course also highlights basic process control techniques that are used in practice and provide detailed mathematical analysis only when it is essential for understanding the material. Key theoretical concepts are illustrated with pilot plant experiments and computer simulations. The MATLAB software package, including the SIMULINK block-diagram simulation environment, is used.

Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd. Kamaruddin bin Abd. Hamid

Ph.D. (Chem. Eng.) (DTU), M.Eng. (Chem. Eng.) (UTM), B.Chem.Eng. (Hons.)(UTM), AMIChemE (UK), Grad.IEM

He is noted as an active researcher in 39 research grants with a total amount of RM2.72 million, where he leads seven of them. He is an expert in the area of computer-aided process design, modelling, simulation and control of chemical processes, currently involved in developing a methodology for flexible and operable energy efficient distillation columns sequence. He has successfully published more than 170 publications in terms of journals, books, book chapters and conference proceedings on process design and control, energy efficient distillation column and engineering education.
