Two Days Course on System Optimization Using GAMS

Introduction

This course teaches the participant the importance of optimization in solving problems. The course will teach participants to derive mathematical models that consist of objective functions, parameter, variables, equality constraints and non-equality constraints. Participant will be exposed to GAMS basic programming and advance programming that includes system scheduling, equipment selection using binary and integers, and non-linearity in modelling. The participants will given a case study that requires the use of all elements learnt during the 2 days workshop to solve an optimization problem.

Learning Outcome:

  • Identify and describe objective functions, decision variables, and constraints
  • Formulate mathematical model consisting of objective functions, parameter, variables, equality constraints and non-equality constraints to solve optimization problems
  • Program mathematical model in GAMS including programming of set, data input, variables, equations, model and solve function, and display function to solve optimization problems
  • Formulate time-based mathematical model to solve optimization problems that involve scheduling
  • Formulate mathematical model using binary and integer for selection purposes
  • Formulate non-linear mathematical model to solve non-linear optimization problems
  • Apply binary and integer in GAMS for solving mixed integer linear (MILP) and non-linear (MINLP) optimization problems
  • Linearize non-linear mathematical model resulted from applying binary and integer functions
  • Work in a team to accomplish the case study
