Registered Energy Manager (REM)

What is this REM workshop?

A 5-day training programme to prepare participants for Registered Energy Manager (REM) competency and assessment under Malaysia’s EECA 2024.

(1) Theoretical Test

(2) Individual Project Presentation.

(3) Interview

It’s based on annual facility energy consumption:
– REM Type 1: 21,600–50,000 GJ/year
– REM Type 2: >50,000 GJ/year

Yes. You may re-sit only the part you did not pass, without repeating the full training programme.

Yes. You must be a Registered Energy Manager First Type for at least 1 year (with a valid practising certificate) and complete the Type 2 training/assessment recognised by the Commission.

Yes. Registered Energy Managers (REM) are required to renew their registration annually. As part of the renewal requirement, REMs must obtain 16 Continuous Development Programme (CDP) hours. These CDP hours must be earned by attending workshops or training programmes conducted by Registered Training Institutions (RTI) that offer CDP hours recognized by the Energy Commission (EC).

The difference is that yearly renewal requires a REM to continue renewing the practising certificate every year by completing the required CDP hours, while CDP exemption allows the REM to be exempted from annual renewal once the mandatory CDP requirements set by the Energy Commission (EC) have been fulfilled.

For yearly renewal, a REM must complete 16 CDP hours before applying to renew the practising certificate for one year. These hours may be obtained from recognized CDP topics, including Mandatory CDP for REM Type 1, Mandatory CDP for REM Type 2, or Optional CDP.

For CDP exemption, the REM must complete the mandatory CDP topics within the stipulated timeframe in accordance with EC guidelines. For REM Type 1, this requires 80 CDP hours under Mandatory CDP for REM Type 1. For REM Type 2, this requires 80 CDP hours under Mandatory CDP for REM Type 1 and 80 CDP hours under Mandatory CDP for REM Type 2. Once approved, the REM is no longer required to renew annually.

For REM Type 2, exemption may only be applied for after the Mandatory CDP requirements for both REM Type 1 and REM Type 2 have been fully completed.

Please also note that the Energy Commission may revise or introduce additional mandatory CDP topics from time to time, and all REMs, including those who have previously obtained exemption, must comply with the latest requirements.
