An energy audit is a systematic assessment of the baseline energy consumption efficiency within a facility, followed by identification of energy efficiency improvement opportunities and cost-saving measures. Depending on the type of premise, the processes and equipment involved, an energy audit scope may include electrical and thermal energy.  An energy audit may be conducted on a whole premise, on a selected, high energy consuming area, or on a specific equipment/system.

An EMS is a systematic approach for an organisation to sustainably manage energy consumption based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle.

Measurement and Verification (M&V) is the process of accurately determining the true energy savings from an efficiency project. It separates the impact of the new technology from changes in operating conditions by establishing a baseline before implementation and measuring performance after. M&V ensures you can verify, justify, and trust the savings achieved.

Pinch Analysis (PA) is a systematic tool to maximise thermal energy and resource efficiency through maximum waste heat and resource recovery.  PA provides facility and site planners, plant designers and process engineers with practical knowledge, skills and systematic methods for the optimal planning, design and retrofit of processes, facilities and manufacturing sites to maximise the recovery of energy and resources such as water, power and materials; and to minimise costs and emissions.

There are two types of Registered Energy Manager (REM). The Energy Consumer is required to appoint REM Type 1 if the facility consumes between 21,600 GJ/yr and 50,000 GJ/yr. If the facility consumes equal or more than 50,000 GJ/yr, they are required to appoint REM Type 2. REM Type 1 are energy managers which have knowledge in energy management systems, and electrical energy systems audit and energy saving measures.  REM Type 2 are energy managers which have additional knowledge on thermal  energy systems audit and energy saving measures.
