Strengthens Energy Excellence through OPTIMISE EnMS Workshops

OPTIMAL SYSTEMS ENGINEERING SDN BHD (OPTIMISE) recently conducted a series of Energy Management System (EnMS) workshops for Oleon Port Klang Sdn Bhd, supporting the company in strengthening its energy management practices and advancing its sustainability efforts.

The programme was delivered through two structured workshops:

Workshop 1: Establish Commitment, Assess Performance, Set Targets and Overall Action Plan
Date: 27–28 November 2025

Workshop 2: Development and Documentation of EnMS
Date: 4–5 March 2026

The workshops brought together representatives from multiple departments, including production, maintenance, engineering, human resources, procurement, and management. This cross-functional participation reflected Oleon’s strong commitment to building a systematic and organisation-wide approach to energy management.

Building a Strong Energy Management Foundation

The first workshop focused on introducing participants to the ISO 50001 Energy Management System framework and the key elements needed to establish an effective EnMS.

Throughout the sessions, participants explored the structure and principles of ISO 50001, analysed the organisation’s operational context, and identified relevant regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations. A gap analysis was also conducted to evaluate Oleon’s current readiness and highlight opportunities for improvement.

In addition, the workshop included an assessment of current energy performance to identify potential risks and areas for enhancement. Participants also worked on key EnMS components, including the formation of the Energy Management Committee (EMC), review of the Energy Policy, and identification of energy baselines and Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs). The session concluded with the development of measurable energy objectives, targets, and action plans to guide future implementation.

Advancing EnMS Development and Documentation

The second workshop focused on the practical development and documentation required to support EnMS implementation.

To ensure more focused discussions, participants were divided into technical and support function groups.

The technical group worked on identifying Significant Energy Uses (SEUs), developing operational control measures, and establishing energy data collection and monitoring plans.

Meanwhile, the support function group addressed important organisational elements such as training and competency development, communication and awareness strategies, energy-related procurement practices, and document control procedures.

The workshop concluded with group presentations, where participants shared their proposed procedures and implementation plans. These sessions provided a clear and practical roadmap for the continued development of Oleon Port Klang Sdn Bhd’s Energy Management System.

Supporting Sustainable Energy Practices

The workshops were facilitated by OPTIMISE’s team of energy management experts, comprising Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Sharifah Rafidah Wan Alwi, and Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Lim Jeng Shiun. Together, they bring extensive expertise in energy systems engineering, sustainability, and industrial consultancy.

One participant shared:

“The workshop provided a clear and structured approach to developing our Energy Management System. The interactive sessions helped us better understand how to translate energy management concepts into practical actions within our organisation.”

The successful completion of these workshops marks an important step for Oleon Port Klang Sdn Bhd in enhancing its energy management capabilities while supporting long-term sustainability and operational efficiency.
